GODSENT have teamed up with GRID to create a charity showmatch event in aid of Barncancerfond, a Swedish charity focused on fighting childhood cancer.
The event is set to take place on January 17 at 13:00 and will be streamed on GRID's Twitch channel, where the GODSENT roster will face off against the data company's staff in a best-of-three matchup. The series will feature a selection of unusual details, including substitutions, random money injections, and mixed teams, making for an entertaining show for the viewers at home.
Talking the audience through the action will be Kieran "Kieran" Cullinan and Teo "oversiard" Siard, two familiar faces from the GRID esports channel, with the duo currently casting the United Masters League Season 2 playoffs.
The chosen charity which the tournament will aid is the Barncancerfondon, the single largest financier of childhood cancer research in Sweden. GRID has already pledged €500 to the project and will also match donations from viewers during the first map, up to the value of €1,000.
The majority of the funds collected by Barncancerfonden will be used to finance research and training, while the other funds are spread across fundraising, information, advice and support, and administration, with more details on how the donations are spent found here.
"We are very proud to be part of this initiative in trying to contribute with what we can to a very important purpose," Ludwig Sandgren, CEO & Co-Founder of Godsent, told the Esports Insider.
"Childhood should be about being with friends and playing games and if we can aid in helping raise money for children with cancer, it is something absolutely worth doing and we hope that we will see more initiatives like this in esports in the future."
